This is a dorsal view of the “soft tick” Carios kelleyi, formerly Ornithodoros kelleyi, or the “Bat Tick”.



Though this tick specie has been shown to carry both the spotted fever rickettsial, and relapsing fever borrelial pathogens there is no evidence of these diseases having been passed to humans through a tick bite from this arachnid.
