This photomicrograph shows a red blood cell being triply infected by Plasmodium vivax during the parasite’s ring stage.



The maximum size of red blood cells infected with Plasmodium vivax ranges between 1.5 - 2 times their normal size. Numerous Schüffner’s dots are found within the RBC, as well as three rings, each containing one chromatin dot.
