These tracks were made by a deer mouse, Peromyscus maniculatus, the major carrier of Sin Nombre virus, in Estes Park, Co.
Sin Nombre virus is one of the hantaviruses that causes hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) in humans. Incubation lasts for 1–5wks, and symptoms begin with a fever and muscle aches, followed by shortness of breath and coughing.
