This thin film photomicrograph depicts a mature Plasmodium vivax trophozoite with prominent pigment; Mag. 1125X.



P. vivax trophozoites have a large quantity of ameboid cytoplasm, and a large amount of fine, yellowish-brown chromatin. The RBCs are enlarged by 1.5x to 2x, and may be distorted in shape, and as in this case, contain fine Schüffner’s dots.
