
This thin film micrograph depicts a P. vivax ring with basophilic stippling in the RBC, using Giemsa stain; Mag. 1125X.

P. vivax rings have a large quantity of cytoplasm and a large chromatin dot, as well as occasional pseudopods. The RBCs are of normal, to 1.5x normal sized, round, and contain fine Schüffner’s dots, and quite often contain multiple parasites.
