This photomicrograph shows the asci and ascospores of the fungus Arthroderma grubyi, formerly Nannizzia grubyia.

Many Arthroderma spp. of fungi are coprophilous, or dung-inhabiting, and are commonly associated with vertebrate animals as skin parasites, living off discarded skin fragments, hair or feathers.
