This is a top view of a cereal agar plate culture growing the fungus Microsporum persicolor.

M. persicolor, though a dermatophytic fungus due to its propensity to infect skin, and nails, it is not known to infect the hair of its human hosts. It can degrade keratin by producing keratinases that enables it to reside in cutaneous structures.
