The Tobin Bridge in Boston, MA, shed flakes of lead-based paint onto subjacent neighborhoods and the Mystic River below.



In 1979, abrasive blasting techniques were used to remove the hazardous leaded paint from parts of the bridge over neighborhoods while scraping was done on the part of the structure over the water.
