Dr. Frederick S. McKay’s observations of the effects of fluoride in drinking water led to today’s modern fluoridation process.



In1931, Dr. McKay discovered that a high level of fluoride in the drinking water of the Colorado Springs area was causing brown stains, as well as resistance to tooth decay of tooth enamel among the native inhabitants, leading to the fluoridation process.
