This photograph depicts the appearance of a smallpox vaccination site “take” after using a Ped-O-Jet® injector.

If the vaccination is successful, in 3 or 4 days a red, itchy bump develops at the vaccine site, the “take”. During the first week the bump becomes a large blister, fills with pus, and begins to drain. During week 2 the blister dries and a scab is formed.
