This image was captured while a Head Louse, Pediculus humanus, was emerging from its egg.



After the egg hatches, the shell becomes a more visible dull yellow, still attached to the hair shaft. The nymph looks like an adult head louse, but is about the size of a pinhead, maturing after three molts, becoming adults about 7 days after hatching.
